Tropical Storm Elsa has formed above South America and is tracking quickly toward the eastern Caribbean, and is slated to move up toward the Florida Peninsula by early next week.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that those in Elsa’s path should expect tropical storm conditions, including rainfall and winds, to hit the Windward and southern Leeward Islands by early Friday of this week.
Heavy rainfall is set to hit these islands and move into Barbados, with outer rain drifting toward Puerto Rico Friday and into Saturday.
Neighboring islands like Hispaniola, or Haiti and the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Turks and Caicos, and the Bahamas all also are at risk for tangential rainfall or high wind speeds.
Once Elsa reaches the southernmost part of Florida, it brings a risk of storm surge, high winds, and rainfall, especially along the Florida Keys.
