5 injured after gas plant explosion in Kankakee

Five people were hurt in an explosion at a gas pipeline plant in Kankakee County. It happened in Hirscher, about 60 miles southwest of Chicago, at the natural gas pipeline company of America. The men were doing some maintenance welding at the time. The company says it was not a natural gas leak that caused the explosion and that a flash fire was immediately put out. Four of the injured workers were released from hospitals Tuesday afternoon while a fifth remains in serious condition.
